Family-owned for over 200 years, the winery has been managed since 1988 by Ernst F. Loosen . Great wines, he believes, are the perfect expression of the soil, climate and grape variety. With the heritage of his ancestors – old vines, true to their roots, in historical Grand Cru sites of the Middle Mosel – he has found exactly the material he needs to produce independent, complex wines of world class. Today, Dr. Loosen is internationally regarded as the poster child for a rediscovered German Riesling culture. Since 1993, the winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).

THE MOSEL REGION

Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, southfacing slopes and slate soil create the perfect conditions for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun and a racy minerality. The cool, northern climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly, for full flavor development, while retaining bright, refreshing acidity.
